LycaMobile is a virtual network operated by LycaTel. It was launched in 2006 and specialises in cheap international calls from mobiles. As a result, it has proved to be very popular amongst expatriate customers and signed up 1.6 million UK customers in its first year.
Lycamobile were one of the first companies to get access to Telstra’s wholesale network when they launched in Australia in November 2010, originally on the Telstra 2G network but they have now been moved across to the Telstra 3G Wholesale network.

I nervously joined Lyca after reading many bad reviews. However, the $19 per month of unlimited calls, sms and 5Gb data got me and it was pretty good while it lasted. Overall the coverage was good. The only negative is no MMS.

Sometimes, I like to call family from overseas and this a great sim for doing that, with rates under 10c a minute. For a while there, they had a promotion where I could call specific countries in Asia for just 0c a minute with just flagfall! Lyca to Lyca is free but I just haven’t met enough people who use this sim.
